Antucura Calcura 2011

94 pts Decorchados 2015 Palate entry is sweet, good concentration and volume, firm tannins that will give longevity.

Tasting Notes

Visually intense with a brilliant ruby red color. The nose offers highly expressive suggestions of plums, red currant and cherries with hints of spices and mocha. The palate is supple and round, pro-offering sweet dark plum and blackberry fruit on its medium fuller frame. A nice veil of acidity helps to carry the sweet fruit flavors through the palate, with firmer, but well integrated tannins on the backend guaranteeing good aging potential.

Awards, Reviews and other Notes

94 pts Decorchados 2015

92 pts James Suckling
This shows very pretty finesse and depth with dark chocolate, spice and light blue berry character. Medium body, beauty and drinkability. Drink or hold. A blend of mostly merlot with cabernet and malbec. Wonderful price.

89 pts Stephen Tanzer's IWC
(40% Merlot, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon and 27% Malbec; 15.5% alcohol): Good medium red. Deep, burnished aromas of redcurrant, plum, mocha, coffee and milk chocolate. Round, seamless and sweet, with mellow plum and blackberry flavors given grip by a firm edge of acidity and suave, dusty tannins. Lovely sweetness here. -- Stephen Tanzer

88 pts Robert Parker Jr.’s The Wine Advocate (LG)
A Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon blend, the 2011 Calcura has some unusual oily aromas, redolent of black and green olives. It’s ripe and juicy with sweet tannins and sweet fruit toward the finish. Pleasant and easy. 20,000 bottles
