90 pts Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar - Deep cherry and blackberry flavors, gentle tannins and subtle smoky lift. |
Tasting
Notes |
|
Dark crimson with youthful hues. Lifted aromas of ripe raspberries, plum and cherry layered with chocolate and allspice. A full-bodied wine with an intense, generous palate of raspberries and plum pudding with dusty chocolate, earth and spice. Rich and flavoursome, with great length and ripe lingering tannins. |

Reviews and other Notes |
90 pts Stephen Talzer's International Wine Cellar (JM) Opaque ruby color. Seductively perfumed bouquet of dark berry preserves, vanilla, lavender and smoky bacon. Lush and densely packed, with deep cherry and blackberry flavors, gentle tannins and subtle smoky lift. Finishes broad and long, with powerful dark berry character.
88 pts Robert Parker Jr.'s The Wine Advocate The 2008 Manuka Grove Durif is purple/black in color with a brooding bouquet of black fruits and damp earth. Firm and structured on the palate, it has the fruit to balance its tannins but will require at least 4-6 years of cellaring to become civilized. It should drink well for a decade thereafter. |
Winemaker Notes |
The fruit was crushed/ destemmed and then fermentation took place in vinimatics being rotated every 6 hours. Thereafter, the wine was bag-pressed and all components were fermented in American oak before undergoing maturation in new and 1 year old French and American hogsheads for 14 months. |
