Margan Botrytis Semillon 2007

91 pts Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar (JR) - Deeply concentrated but energetic, offering sweet pit fruit compote flavors and gentle back-end lift.

Tasting Notes

Green gold in colour with sweet perfumed fruit on the nose. The wine has pure citrus characters creating excellent line and length. The palate is long and textured with ripe fruit characters up front, a strong middle palate and a crisp clean acid finish. The fruit characters on the palate will further intensify and complex as the wine matures. The wine is drinking superbly now, however will reward long term cellaring.

Food Accompaniments

Great with seafood.

Pungent apricot, Meyer lemon and green tea aromas are surprisingly lively for a late-harvest wine, becoming smoky and spicy with air. Deeply concentrated but energetic, offering sweet pit fruit compote flavors and gentle back-end lift. The spicy note returns on the finish, which is broad and deep but nervy. This is already quite complex.

Winemaker Notes

The grapes for this wine were selected from our Cornerstone vineyard, (thirty-five year old dryland vines cropping at 1 tonne to the acre). This vineyard produces wines of intense citrus like flavours. The 2006 vintage was a great semillon vintage with great flavour ripeness at a lower baume than normal. The juice was fermented under temperature controlled conditions to maintain all of its fruit characters. True to Hunter tradition, no oak is used.
