Barossa Valley,  Australia

Craneford Wines was founded in 1978 and located at Springton, east of the Barossa Range. In 1998 the business relocated to the town of Truro, a tiny historic town on the northern edge of the Barossa Valley. The winery is currently housed in the old Country Fire Station building.
A plan to expand the winery was embarked upon in 2004 resulting in a change of ownership. A bottling line was added guaranteeing all wine is made from start to finish on site, providing total control over the quality of the wine at all times.
In mid 2006 John Glaetzer was appointed as the overseeing winemaker. A winner of four Jimmy Watson trophy’s during his extensive career as chief red wine maker at Wolf Blass Wines, he has ensured that quality wine making remains the focus at Craneford Wines.
Fruit sourced from our various growers is treated as individual fruit parcels during the winemaking process. This ensures each wine is crafted to epitomize the best fruit of the vintage whilst continuing to express the unique characters of the each vineyard. Final blends are made with components decided only after each vineyards wine has been individually tasted and analysed to ensure it meets our highest expectations.

Craneford’s old basket press is unfailingly used for all of our red wine production. A somewhat old and outdated process, Craneford persist with this slow and almost tedious pressing of the fruit as it results in softer and finer tannins. You can't rush quality, and the ancient yet reliable machine is testimony to that.
The philosophy at Craneford Wines is to produce premium quality wine made from varieties which in particular, excel in the Barossa. Craneford will continue to seek out vineyards and varieties which produce fruit displaying excellent regional characteristics and depth of colour, whilst constantly and foremost focusing on quality and not quantity of fruit in order to preserve the integrity of our wines, and to ensure the friendship and support of our customers.
